Hi, I'm Sojourner.
I'm a U.S. Army veteran, a wife, and a mother of five. I know what it's like to carry fear of the unknown — I've lived with it, and I've watched it shape how people see the world.
In late December 2023, I traveled to Russia for the first time to meet my husband's family during a period of heightened uncertainty between our countries. I'll admit I carried some of that tension with me. But what I found when I arrived was something very different from what I had been led to expect. Instead of coldness or distance, I encountered warmth, resilience, and a quiet depth in the people and culture that surprised me.
I've returned several times since then. I've learned the language, stayed in people's homes, and spent time with ordinary Russians far beyond the usual tourist path. Those experiences changed me. I saw firsthand the kindness of everyday people, the weight of their history, and the quiet strength that comes from a culture deeply rooted in faith and tradition.
I believe we're meant to build bridges instead of walls — not by pretending difficult things don't exist, but by choosing to see people as they actually are. That's why I created this space.
