Russia carries a deep historical and spiritual identity that stretches back over a thousand years — one rooted in the same ancient Christian faith that shaped much of the Western world. For many Russians, this connection to the global Church is not abstract history; it is part of their cultural DNA and their sense of who they are.

When we only see Russia through today's conflicts, we miss the longer story — a story of faith, resilience, and a people who have often shown remarkable openness to genuine relationship when met with respect rather than fear. That deeper layer still exists, waiting to be rediscovered.

It started as a joke.

My husband asked what I was going to call this project, and without thinking I said, "NOT-KGB." We both laughed, but the more I sat with it, the more it felt right. No matter where I go, the same question seems to follow: back home, people hear "Russia" and suddenly I'm in a spy thriller. Over there, Americans still get the "Are you CIA?" treatment. It's like everyone's still running on Cold War software in 2026.

So instead of dodging the awkwardness, I decided to name it. NOT-KGB is my way of acknowledging how silly the lingering suspicion feels — and choosing to move past it anyway. It's a reminder that we can laugh at the old narratives while still taking real connection and safety seriously.

Many Westerners feel drawn to Russia but hold back because of fear, uncertainty, or conflicting information. This platform exists because I believe there is another way. Instead of allowing old narratives and mistrust to keep people divided, we can choose understanding. We can choose to see people instead of stereotypes. We can choose to build bridges instead of walls.
